In 2008, a short video clip showing the reunion between two friends and the lion they had raised as a cub became one of the year’s biggest Internet sensations. Though they were warned that Christian was now the head of his own pride and would probably not remember them, the men were undaunted…and the result was unforgettable. Upon seeing them, the now-enormous beast ran up, hugged them in his paws and nuzzled their faces in joy.
In A Lion Called Christian, Anthony Bourke and John Rendall tell the full story behind this remarkable encounter. First published in 1971, this classic book has been updated with more than 50 photos of Christian and new information about what happened to all three in the years since their emotional reunion.

I'd like to make fellow readers aware that Animal Planets' documentary of Christian and Anthony/John's love affair is shown periodically. As they say, 'Check you local listing'.

This was a fabulous book! The pictures of Christian and his interactions with his human friends brought tears to my eyes. There wasn't even a need for any description of the relationships-so beautiful. But the icing on the cake was the wonderful story between these three beings.Great, awesome, fabulous, wonderful.....and more.

This story is sad, at times funny, & will put a spark in your heart. I read the book then saw the video on youtube. This story is very touching & you will fall in love with Christian just by reading the book.

This was my mom's pick for our bookclub. I enjoyed the photos and was curious to read the story behind the video. I enjoyed the book but it was sad to see what Christian went through and it wasn't as successful as they would have you believe.

Although I was not aware of the YouTube sensation, this book attracted me due to the fact that it reminded me of several books I had read as a child. These books are Born Free, Living Free, and Forever Free by Joy Adamson. I was thrilled to find out that Christain was intertwined with Elsa's legacy. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the incredible photos. It brought back many memories and has prompted me to read the Born Free series again ,which I still have. Great book!
