Tudor England’s most sensational crime comes to brilliant life in Chris Skidmore’s Death and the Virgin Queen. It is the story of a murder that scandalized the country—and continues to baffle historians and writers.
On the morning of September 8, 1560, at the isolated manor of Cumnor Place, the body of a young woman was found at the bottom of a staircase, her neck broken. But this was no ordinary death. Amy Robsart was the wife of Elizabeth I’s favorite courtier, Robert Dudley, the man who many believed she would marry, were he free. Immediately people suspected foul play and Elizabeth’s own reputation was in danger of serious damage. Many felt she might even lose her throne. An inquest was begun, witnesses called and ultimately a verdict of death by accident was reached. But the mystery refused to die and cast a long shadow over Elizabeth’s reign.
Using recently discovered forensic evidence from the original investigation, Skidmore is able to put an end to centuries of speculation as to the true causes of Robsart’s death. This is the story of a treacherous period in Elizabeth’s life: a tale of love, death and tragedy, exploring the dramatic early life of England’s Virgin Queen.

I found this book well written and easy to follow. Best of all, this book told of thinks unknown to me and covered the hisotric event without over doing them, for someone who know Queen Elizabeth I life by heart. I highly recommend this book for British history lovers.

After I contacted the club about this issue they said they would replace the book for me. I just didn't expect it would be with a completely different title. What's going on here?

Like the other reviewer, I too, noticed the missing section.
Very disappointing.

I received this book today and in glancing over it noticed that it is a Book Club Edition. That alone is not a problem but there is an Illustrations Plate Section page listing sixteen paintings (in colour I assume) and photographs. The problem here is that there is no Plate Section. The only illustrations are the five gray scale Text Illustrations listed on the next page. It appears that this Edition omits the Plates. I think if that is the case we should be told so up front so that we can decide if that is acceptable.
