The Talisman

On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: his father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America--and into another realm.

Incredibly, Jack Sawyer has learned that they key to salvation lies in another world called "The Territories." Embarking on a desperate quest to save his mother's life, Jack searches for a prize across a fantastic landscape of innocents and monsters, of incredible dangers and even more incredible truths. Will he find his prize and redemption, or will he simply become latest victim of an unimaginable evil? Explicit sex, violence, language, subject matter.

One of Kings Best!
October 04, 2009

The two authors each have a noticeably distinct style, making it obvious when one author stops writing and the other starts. Any avid King fan can recognize his trademark style. Straub has the amazing ability to define scenes down to the finest detail. The novel is well-devised with the effort of both authors and very pleasant to read. The vivid descriptions make the unforgettable characters come alive. Scenes become so astonishingly real that it's more like watching a movie than reading a book. With great descriptions, interesting characters and two great authors holding the reins, "The Talisman" is a success.

Great Story and Characters
July 28, 2009

This was such a magical book filled with characters I've never forgotten. I read it a long time ago and just finished reading it again and it was still great. If you want to be transported to another world, this is a book for you!

Saved my sanity when I was fourteen
August 30, 2008

I read this book the summer I turned fourteen. I ran away to California with my insane mother, and ended up going through some pretty horrifying experiences. The only thing that kept me grounded was a copy of this book that I borrowed from the library in Van Nuys. This book made me laugh when life made me feel like screaming, and it gave me courage because I felt if Jack could make it through his ordeal then so could I. I honestly don't know how I would have made it during those nightmarish months without this book. Since that summer, I've read it two more times and loaned it to others.
