Devil Bones

Just as the smash television series, Bones, keeps viewers glued to their TV screens, the show’s producer—forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs—holds us captive with her internationally bestselling mystery series starring Temperance Brennan. Devil Bones, the eleventh book in the series, features Reichs’ signature blend of awe-inspiring science and surprising plot twists, as Tempe encounters a deadly mix of devil worship and ritual sacrifice on her quest to identify two young victims.

In a house under renovation in Charlotte, North Carolina, a plumber discovers a hidden cellar—a chamber of horrors in which forensic pathologist Tempe Brennan finds some grisly remains: the skull of a teenage girl, several decapitated chickens and two cauldrons containing beads, feathers, bones and other relics. Add this to the torso of an adolescent boy found in the Catawba River, and the headless, naked body of a young man with an inverted pentagon carved in his chest, and Tempe suspects a nasty connection.

As she contends with a radio pundit who’s stirring public outrage against wiccans and satanists, the bodies keep piling up. Some bad juju’s going on, and Tempe may have a devil of a time tracking the killer.

Disappointing
December 23, 2009

I have always been a big fan of Kathy Reichts, however getting through this book was torture. I kept reading, hoping it would get better....and was very disappointed that it didn't. I hope this is not the beginning of the end for her. Thank goodness Nora Roberts released a new book this month to counter the mental anguish bestowed by Devil Bones.

I Agree
September 10, 2009

Wow, I have to admit I agree with everything that has been said, way too much detail and I a heck of a time keeping the characters straight. I did find the descriptions of the different religions interesting but it was a slow trudge through this book. I still look forward to her next book.

The only book by Kathy Reichs that I wanted to put down!
September 10, 2009

Here's hoping that this is no one's first book by the author. If this is the first book you have read by Ms. Reichs, please read another before dismissing her. This book was way below the quality, intensity, and level of interest of any of her other books. I actually had to make myself finish it because I knew it just had to get better. It didn't. The side story about the radio guy bashing wiccans was unnecessary and slowed the story to a near halt.
